Markus Scheuermaier is IFC’s Senior Country Officer for Botswana and Lesotho, based in Gaborone, where he leads business development efforts, coordinates the implementation of IFC’s activities, and maintains relationships with the Government and private sector clients.

He was previously IFC's Resident Representative for Papua New Guinea, based in Port Moresby. Markus joined IFC in 2003, first in Washington, DC, then in Johannesburg, South Africa. At IFC, he has, among others, managed public-private partnership advisory mandates, and investment climate reform programs.

Prior to IFC, he worked for Brait Private Equity in Johannesburg, and for the Economist Intelligence Unit in London, United Kingdom. Markus is a German national, with degrees in economics, finance and international relations.
