Prof. Adamu Murtala Zungeru

Professor of Computer and Telecommunications Engineering

University of Botswana

Prof. Adamu Murtala Zungeru obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Nottingham, his M.Sc. from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and his B.Eng. from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria. He served as a Research Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA, where he also earned a Postgraduate Teaching Certificate in 2014.


Currently, he is a Full Professor of Electrical Engineering, specialising in Sensors and Systems in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the University of Botswana (UB). Before joining UB in August 2025, he served as an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical and Communications Systems Engineering at the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) from November 2018 to February 2025. In 2015, before joining BIUST, he was a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, Nigeria.


Prof. Zungeru is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), a Professional Engineer accredited by the Botswana Engineers Registration Board (ERB), and a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) in the USA.


He is credited with inventing the Termite-Hill routing algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks, a Method and System for sorting diamonds, An Electrical Switching System for a Building or Installation, and a Farmyard Access Control System and Method.
